The Houston International Quilt Festival 2019

The Winchester Quilt Block Trail was honored to be part of the 2019 International Quilt Festival in Houston on October 30-Nov3.  We were located with the other non-profit organizations and it was our goal to spread the word about barn quilts!

Wednesday was set up day.  Sherwood Gersch and Tom Atkins hauled the barn to Houston in the rain.  They installed the barn quickly and our booth was soon set up and ready to go.  Wednesday evening was preview night for all the people that took advantage of all the wonderful classes the show offers.

Nicolette and Denby Morrison acted as our hosts for the 5 days and we stayed in their lovely home.  10am found us at our booth every day.  We talked to people from all over the world--Iceland, Australia, Canada, Philippines, Germany, the Netherlands--drawn to this show by the love of quilting.

We passed out brochures and information on classes and sold our blocks.  We also got to wander the aisles of the displayed quilts and hundreds of vendors.  The quilt displays were amazing, such creativity is so impressive.

I’ve taken four classes and loved everyone. Lots of fun and hard work but the blocks are so great have all four on my house.

I took a class after learning about the trail during the Houston International Quilt Show. I have not had that much fun creating something in a very long time! While I can sew, I definitely cannot paint... The instructions and materials provided during the class enabled me to create a beautiful custom quilt block that I proudly hang in my sewing studio.

Thank you Winchester Quilt Trail for spreading the love of sewing through this Quilt Block Trail!

I had such a wonderful day working on my quilt block. First of all the drive there is so relaxing and if you keep your eyes open you will see loads of quilt blocks along the way on fences, houses, barns, etc.
There are a lot of pattern choices for you to choose from. I knew immediately when I saw the pattern that was for me on that day. The ladies are so helpful and positive. I just lost myself in the work. I have a stressful job and I just melted in relaxation with each hour that flew by and I knew when I walked out the door I that WILL be back again. A friend told me about the class and I am so happy that I got to go! I am getting ready to sign up again!
